In the wild and rapacious days of a forgotten time where conventionality was king and caution was subordinate, where the whims and desires of youth carried with them unbridled passion and expectation awaited around every corner; the future lay ahead as an open field of dreams where the illusions thereof never quite seemed to materialize. Now they lay in the forgotten fields devoid of essence and laden with excess. The years have passed and they have turned into the depravity of the future.
Man has sought to look good, feel good, and titillate his pleasure. The New Years Eve was carried out not so much as a celebration but as a failed attempt at an annual respite to heal its tortured past. To cover up the failings, the breakdowns and the disjointed quondam with the re gathering of chronological time; it was all in vain. It can be well surmised that the only thing man can look forward to is more of the same…
Success now hinges on the repeating of this insane process where new hopes, dreams, and resolutions are infused back into the unchartered territory of the future only to be lamented at the end of the year once again (by all it’s survivors) who say “where has the year gone”? Unbeknownst to them is that it has gone exactly the same route as the year before, and the year before, and the year before…
But people still throttle headlong into the future with their vicarious dreams that they never seem to live out for themselves. And then the whole thing repeats itself. The irony being that they are one year older.
The world for its part still has burgeoning debt that can never be repaid, on-going multi national wars that the media seems to have forgotten about and increasing unemployment all the while people are flocking in droves to the theaters to see Avatar like giddy schoolchildren looking for a refreshment but moreover to forget about the times in which we live.
Time is a funny commodity (sardonic humor) in that it never stops for anyone and shows no mercy. Eventually, rich or poor, powerful or destitute, young or old, it will exact its claim. And that claim is some will not make it to the next year. Even Auld Lang Syne is sung at funerals, graduations, and farewells (New Years). So it seems the ceremony is carried out from year to year in an exercise of futility to fight off the inevitable where the survivors claim victory (at least up to and including that year that they completed).
However, for the vast majority of people – they never realize that they are celebrating another year of them getting older and are that much closer to “death”. While it must be pointed out that death is not a morbid subject in and of itself but rather, a “fact of life”. So instead of survival at all costs, the encroachment of time should be looked at as an opportunity to stop time and live in the present where the ravages of time are null and void. Because in the chronological state of being or affairs; it’s a losing proposition…
In God’s world it’s only the beginning.
While many scoff at the suggestion of a merciful God who has provided a life-line to a dying and decaying world devoid of any spiritual wealth; God says of Himself very succinctly in:
Luke 4:18-19 –
18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,
19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord.
Now the question is – are you going to keep celebrating a new year in a dying world or, are you going to come home to God (Jesus Christ) who will stop time and heal you?
It just all depends on how you look at time.
Because the acceptable year of the Lord is right now. But only if you accept it.
(Don’t let this opportunity pass you by)…
