Not on this earth
...but where it matters
Hear the Clang
4-18-10

Editors Note: I'd like to dedicate this (my latest article) to all my friends. Many times we go through this thing called life without really getting to know each other. We may complain a lot about the times in which we live and are separated by distance, resources or time while not realizing we are a spiritual being having a human experience. May your burdens be light, your path narrow and your doctrine salty. This one's for you. Scott

Hear the clang of the chains as they turn their hand to make more bricks and look up to see the eye that watches down on the many by the few. Feel the crack of the whip as it lances the flesh, the body of believers that are sapped of their energy here and there. They moan with each passing day not knowing the conditions will get worse. More bricks less straw will be their orders for the day. Watch as the beads of sweat dot their brow and their backs ache with each effort that they will give. Until at last they can give no more and are singled out and told not to return and cast to the side.

Then a familiar face will make his presence known on those hot sands of time where eternity will meet with us. As we are kicked off the chain gang he reaches down and in a gentle whisper says can I help you my friend? We look up with astonishment in our eyes as he gives us a drink of a cup of cold water and helps us to our feet as he smiles and says that he knew we would be on this long arduous road. And that he was there to give us a helping hand through all the muck and mire and defeats we faced...

That in the end he would always be there and no matter how bad it ever got, no matter how dark the tribulation ever became, or the lonesome nights that we faced - that he would never leave nor forsake his precious few.

That we would have all eternity with him that day and that even though we faced all our physical and spiritual distress, that he was right there to guide our hand, and in reality we were already home even if we were in a suffering mode.

His name is Jesus who died on that cross as the whips came down and tore his flesh. It was he who was thinking of you and me on that fateful day where eternity stood still. He was thinking of you and me as the blood stung his eyes and the thorns tore through and every beat of his heart he knew that he wanted to do it for you.

Now he gives us that cup of cold water after the taskmasters have gone when we have nothing to lose and feel strong. We have given him all our faith and no matter who or what we come up against we are confident and find his peace and rest. Even though we might become beset at times with distress, calamity, or stress, we know that he is never far because for each heartbeat and breath that we take – he is there.

Praise God.

Have you come out of the political and/or religious systems lately? (if you have - pls pass this on to someone who needs to hear it)
