Eulogy for my Bro
11-6-09

I wrote this as I was travelling between San Diego and South Bend a few days ago.

John 11:23-26 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:  And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

As I sit here at a the airport terminal waiting on my flight and watching people go by, I'm reminded of the cold cacophony of life that has us all intertwined in the fragility of it all. Spiritual lines are being drawn and eternal decisions are being made...

....and thinking about when Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead which is a metaphor for our lives. Jesus wept for Lazarus. He weeps over each and every one of us and then raises us from the dead. So with God all things are possible.

Where there is adversity, let us show truth & righteous understanding, where there is darkness; light, where there is conformity to the world; may we be strong together & obedient in the Word.

The second letter to Timothy: 3:16 -  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works...

We are now all in the twilight of our years. The concept of time is not a guarantor per se but a liability, an abstract, a continuum that must be dealt with as we travel between the two enigmas of life that we call birth and death.

 Revelation 21

1 And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.

2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

3 And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.

4 And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.

5 And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.

6 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.

7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son...

A few weeks ago I talked to my younger brother Bryan. The last year or so, every conversation we had; always ended with a reaffirmation of our salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ. We both understood that through all the hardship, pain, and tribulation, that the only thing in life that matters is our relationship with our maker.

With God, there is no distance that cannot be travelled, there are no wounds that cannot be healed, there is no death that cannot be turned into the peace of new life...

Where pain is turned to joy, where tears dry away, where old afflictive memories become the dust of forgotten shadows, where the light and glory of our Saviour becomes evermore, there shall we dwell in the house of the Lord forever...

We are united in life, joined in death to our Savior Jesus Christ, and risen in the eternal hope and glory in God's blessed kingdom.

I John 5:13 - These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

We are re-born as spiritual Israel just like the Lord told Nicodemus...

And concerning our spiritual vision: “For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known. And now abideth faith, hope, charity, these three; but the greatest of these is charity”.

I am confident that right now Bryan J. Sepanek is part of that glorious kingdom and someday soon we shall be too.

Thank you for being here.

Time is of the essence.
